We joined forces with the creative director Sam Lake, director of photography Mikko Riikonen and the Remedy Entertainment’s cinematics team and took a visit to the Dark Place to meet Alan Wake (Ilkka Villi, Matthew Porretta). We combined a lot of experimental analogue film tricks with engine rendered footage to create the unique and nightmare like dark sequences. A lot of live-action footage was also blended on top of the in-game material.
